Iran Confirms Minelaying in Strait of Hormuz

Date:

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Saeed Khatibzadeh, the deputy foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, in response to a question about whether the “technical restrictions” in the Strait of Hormuz meant minelaying, said: “Yes, that is included. Of course, there are other arrangements that we made during the war and are still ongoing.”
He announced that the Strait of Hormuz was open, but ships “must coordinate with Iranian forces.”
Khatibzadeh continued: “All vessels, even American ones, can pass through this strait as long as they do not behave hostilely. Of course, there are technical restrictions due to the war zone and the arrangements that Iran made during this war and the invasion of the country.”
