Trump’s Iran Ultimatum: Why the “Deal or Bombing” Choice Matters Now More Than Ever

Date:

After the IRNA news agency announced that the text of the “latest negotiation plan” between Iranian officials and the United States had been submitted to a mediator, the US President announced that he was dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal and was not sure that he would be able to reach an agreement with the Islamic Republic.

“Donald Trump” said on Friday, May 11, 1405: “There are currently talks with Tehran, but these talks have not reached the desired result and have not made significant progress.”

According to him, the Islamic Republic’s officials have demanded things from the US government that he cannot accept.

These statements come at a time when, hours after confirming receipt of the new negotiation plan, the White House spokesman announced that he could not publicly announce the details of the plan.

Continuing his dissatisfaction with the negotiations process, Trump said that there are two options regarding Iran: “A deal or heavy bombing.”

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, he continued: “There are options. Do we want to go and bomb them and finish them off for good? Or do we want to try to make a deal? Those are the options.”

Trump also confirmed that he had received an update on military options from U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, on Thursday.

He said his preference was not to have to repeat the bombing, saying, “I would prefer not to do it from a human perspective. But that’s the choice: Do we want to go in hard and completely destroy them, or do we want to do something else?”

Trump did not elaborate on the details of the Iranian proposal, but said Tehran may never reach a negotiated solution to end the war.

Trump said, referring to “strong differences” among Iranian leaders: “They’ve made progress, but I’m not sure they’ll ever get there.”
