Iran has issued warning shots towards US destroyers in the Hormuz Strait.

Date:

On May 4, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a statement asserting that it had discharged warning shots at vessels after “observing and identifying US destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz.”

The statement indicated that the US destroyers “had aimed to approach the Strait of Hormuz hours earlier by deactivating their radars in the Sea of Oman,” but upon reactivating their radars, they were detected and received a radio warning from the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding “the dangers of breaching the ceasefire.”

Furthermore, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran declared that after the US destroyers disregarded the initial warning, they were cautioned once more that “entering the Strait of Hormuz would be regarded as a violation of the ceasefire.”

As per the statement, as the US destroyers persisted in ignoring the initial warnings, the Iranian Navy launched “cruise missiles, rockets, and combat drones” in the vicinity of the vessels.

The statement did not elaborate on the results of these warnings or the reaction of the American destroyers, merely stressing that “the repercussions of such perilous actions will be shouldered by” the United States.

This statement was released an hour after the military of the Islamic Republic announced, without providing specifics, that its navy had “prevented the entry of American destroyers” into the Strait of Hormuz through a “firm and swift warning.”

Previously, the US military had declared that starting Monday, it would initiate support for the free passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, deploying 15,000 troops, 100 aircraft, and several destroyers.
