Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of the” parliament and leader of the Islamic Republic’s negotiation team”, has accused the United States and its allies of “violating the ceasefire” and jeopardizing the security of maritime shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In a message shared on his X social media platform, he indicated that the security of energy transit in this crucial waterway has been compromised due to recent blockades and military actions.
Qalibaf further asserted his belief that “there is no military solution” to the ongoing crisis, stating: “While discussions are advancing thanks to the generous efforts of Pakistan, the United States must exercise caution to avoid being ensnared by adversaries once more. The United Arab Emirates should also remain alert.”
Prior to his comments, Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, urged the United Arab Emirates to refrain from pursuing a “military solution” against the Islamic Republic in light of the recent events in the Strait of Hormuz. He also cautioned the United States that political crises cannot be resolved through military means.
These statements come in the wake of reports detailing limited naval confrontations, drone interceptions, and a heightened military presence in the Persian Gulf in recent days. In reference to these occurrences, Qalibaf mentioned the “establishment of a new equation” in the Strait of Hormuz and warned that maintaining the current situation would be “intolerable” for the United States. He also stressed: “We haven’t even begun yet.” This position is articulated during a period of increasing tensions in one of the globe’s most vital energy corridors.
