Iran-US Talks in Islamabad: Progress, But No Final Deal

Ismail Baqai says that in the negotiations with the US, which were mediated by Pakistan, an understanding was reached on important issues, but differences persisted on 2 to 3 important issues, due to which no final agreement could be reached.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baqai told Iranian media that no agreement should be expected in a single session, that consultations with other friendly countries, including Pakistan, will continue and that the country’s interests and national security will be defended at all costs.

He says that an understanding has been reached on many issues, that our opinions on 2 or 3 important issues were quite different, and that no agreement could be reached due to these issues.

Ismail Baqai said that the negotiations in Islamabad were the longest session of a year, diplomacy is a means of protecting national interests, whether it is war or peace, diplomacy never ends.
