Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, is facilitating backchannel negotiations between the “United States and Iran in Islamabad following a 15-day ceasefire“. The discussions center on the US releasing $20 billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, including 450kg at 60% purity, with down-blending, shipping to a third country, and enrichment limits under IAEA monitoring. President Donald J. Trump praised Sharif and Munir on Truth Social, and talks are advancing toward a memorandum of understanding and broader agreement.
