While the Islamic Republic’s media has made lifting the naval blockade one of Iran’s main conditions for resuming talks with the United States, US President Donald Trump has stressed that the “naval blockade” of Iranian ports will continue until an agreement is reached.
On Monday, April 11, 2021, Trump wrote in messages on the social network Truth Social: “We will not lift the blockade until an agreement is reached.” He stressed that the naval blockade is fully implemented and that this has put Iran under severe pressure.
Referring to the situation in Iran, the US President wrote: “They are losing $500 million a day, a figure that is not sustainable even in the short term.”
Trump also rejected reports of pressure to reach a deal quickly, saying: “There is no pressure on me.” He stressed that time is not of decisive importance to him: “The only thing that matters is that the job is done right.”
Trump wrote: “The deal we are making with Iran will be much better than the JCPOA; the agreement commonly known as the ‘Iran nuclear deal’, written by Barack Hussein Obama and a sleepy Joe Biden; one of the worst agreements ever made for the security of our country.”
The US president added that the JCPOA was a “guaranteed path” for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon and that the agreement he is working on will not allow Iran to do so.
These statements came as contradictory reports have been published in recent days about the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the US, and the issue of the naval blockade has been stated as one of the main points of disagreement between the two sides.
