Nine Iranian personnel were killed and eight others were injured in a US airstrike during a mission to recover the pilot of a downed US plane in Iran. Israel has also carried out 120 strikes on Iran in the past 24 hours, raising the specter of war in the region.
Brigadier General Masoud Zare, commander of the Iranian Air Defense Academy, was also killed in these attacks. Iranian officials confirmed the deaths and indicated a strong response.
